The normal Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary consists of 10 days activity including arrival and departure in Kathmandu. The first phase and final phase of this trip is road trip either on a local bus or on a private jeep. Mid section between Syaprubeshi to Kyanjin Gompa via Langtang village is trekking.
Now, let’s find out about these phases in detail:
The road distance between Kathmandu and Syaprubeshi is about 122 kilometers and mostly well maintained road. It takes about 7 to 8 hours to reach the town from Kathmandu. Few kilometers before Syaprubeshi nearby Dhunche, trekkers can get the Langtang National Park Permit. There are three check posts for permit checking. They are in Dhunche, Syaprubeshi, Ghoda Tabela, and Langtang Village.
Trek starts from Syaprubeshi. The first phase of the trek is through green lush forests and narrow river valleys to Lama Hotel. After spending two nights in Lama Hotel and Langtang Village, trekkers reach the final destination the Kyanjin Gompa. On this journey, trekkers have to walk for about 6 to 7 hours to reach Lama Hotel from Syaprubeshi and Langtang Village via Ghoda Tabela from Lama Hotel. However, it takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach the Kyanjin Gompa from Langtang Village or Mundu Village.
The trail traverses through bamboo forests and diverse landscape. This is also the section where you may spot endangered species of Red Panda and snow leopards. There are many chortens and prayer flags on the trekking trail. Walk carefully and always heed the instructions of the trekking guide.
You can stay two nights in the Kyanjin Gompa Village. During these stays, make sure to hike up to Tsergo Ri. This hike is as splendid as it offers the breathtaking scenery of 14th tallest mountain Mt. Sishapangma of China as well. The view of the Yalakharka and river valleys too is enticing. The Kyanjin Ri hike is also special as you can get the 360 degree view of mountains and glacial lake. It is spectacular to see the Kyanjin Village from the top of the Kyanjin Ri. Explore the farmlands around the village and the monastery! Talk with the locals and get immersed in their culture.
If you wish to extend the trek then you can do it by adding few more extra days and cost! Yala Peak Climbing activity is also possible from this route. Add few more dollars and hire a climbing guide from Kyanjin. You can leave your footprints in one of the mountain of the region. The height of the Yala Peak is about 5600 m.
Ganjala Pass Trek is also possible but it requires immense physical fitness. It is the most challenging and technical trekking to do in the Langtang region of Nepal. Extend the Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary by adding the exploration of Thulo Syabru and Gosaikunda Lake. The trek to Gosaikunda Lake starts after returning from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel.
Visit various Tamang Villages like Thuman, Briddim, Gatlang, and Tatopani after the Langtang Valley Trek. You can get chances to understand the traditions, culture, and everyday lifestyle of Tamang people.
Try local food and get spiritual awakening at the various monasteries of the region. Please note that non – vegetarian foods are not available in this trek. According to Buddhists ideology, people can’t harm the nature. Therefore, the wildlife and vegetation of the region are well protected naturally and culturally.
