Jomsom Muktinath Trek is Hinduism & Buddhism Pilgrimage

Jomsom Muktinath Trek gives an opportunity to see striking views of incredible mountain vistas, unique temples, and monasteries along the windy valleys. This trek is for 13 days which begins in Kathmandu with the tour of UNESCO world heritage sites. It is part of the Annapurna Circuit trek and prevails as one of the most admired and classical pilgrimage tours. This trek gives you the chance to view the incredible, stunning Himalayan landscape, and the Kali Gandaki valley. It is an exciting trek in the Annapurna and Mustang region of Nepal. It is located at an altitude of 2700m in Mustang. This trek is also famous with the name as Dzong-Sampa and is also known as the Jomsom trek. In this trek, we can observe the temples and religious shrines in Jomsom and Muktinath. These are the most noteworthy pilgrimage sites for Hindu and Buddhist in this region.  The treks give a wonderful perception of the agriculture Nepalese existence.

Jomsom Muktinath Trek starts with a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. It avoids the roadway and goes on beautiful trails. Dipping our body in the hot spring at Tatopani will also be the pleasing experience. There are views of eight of the twenty highest mountains in the world, so this trek can be unique for all fit trekkers. Our trails pass through quaint villages, cascading waterfalls, lush forest and surprisingly an almost- barren leeward side of the Himalayan. This trip takes us from Marphato Tatopani village by road and begins the foothill excursion toward Ghorepani where we will enjoy a beautiful sunrise over the Himalayas. We will end our trek with a drive to Pokhara followed by a drive to Kathmandu the next day.

The best time for this trek is mid-October and ends in November and the latter half of February when the days are crisp and the scenery lovely.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara 6 hour

Day 03: Pokhara to Jomsom flight and trek to Kagbeni  (280m) 3 hour

Day 04: Kagbeni to trek Muktinath. (3760m) 4 hour

Day 05: Trek to back to Marpha. (2670m) 6 hour

Day 06: Drive to Tatopani by jeep. (1100m) 4 hour

Day 07: Trek to Back to Ghorepani (2850m.) Poon Hill Sunrise (3210m) 7/8 hrs

Day 08: Trek to Tadapani (2650m) 6 hrs

Day 09: Trek to Ghandruk (1950m) 3 hrs

Day 10: Trek to Nayapul and Drive back to Pokhara. 5 hrs

Day 11: Pokhara to Kathmandu

Details Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

After arriving in Kathmandu, a delegate from Everest Trekking Routes will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, you may take a rest or visit the Everest Trekking Routes office. In the evening there will be welcome dinner given by Everest Trekking Routes where you will be served Nepalese food which will introduce you to the country’s food culture. 

Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara 

10 Minute walk to Tourist bus station from the hotel and drive to Pokhara take 6 to 7 hours. During the driving period can see beautiful rice farm and very popular Trishuli River rafting. which is most are enjoying with the raft. The road followed to prithibi Rajmarg Highway 2 times stop for breakfast and lunch and Continue drive to Pokhara at midday  and transfer to hotel and walk around Pokhara Fewa lake

Day 03: Pokhara to Jomsom flight and trek to Kagbeni.  (280m) 3 hour

Spending the wonderful night in the Pokhara we will drive at the local airport to fly towards Jomsom. After reaching Jomsom, we will have our lunch and we will take some rest and we will slowly start our trekking towards Kagbeni. This village is fascinating with its rich Tibetan cultures and their unique hospitality which influences us greatly. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the lush forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak. We will spend one night in this beautiful village. 

Day 04: Trek to Muktinath. (3760m) 4 hour

We will continue to trek towards Muktinath after having breakfast early in the morning. While walking you can enjoy a beautiful deserted landscape, caves, and the wonderful views of the mountain. Explore day and visit Muktinath Temple which is most popular pilgrimage Hinduism and Buddhism temple and many others Buddhist monastery with 108 water tape secret holy water then return to the lodge. And we will spend one night in this beautiful village. 

Day 05: Trek to Marpha. (2670m) 6 hour

Muktinath is an important pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhists alike. In the morning, we pay our visit to a Vishnu Temple and a Gompa. After leaving Muktinath we slowly walk for Marpha. During the time of trekking, we will cross many beautiful villages, landscapes, and monasteries. we will have our lunch on the way then after we continue our trekking towards Marpha. Marpha is also famous as the apple capital of Nepal. The local apple brandy of Marpha is famous all over Nepal and after reaching Marpha we will go to explore all around the Marpha and return back to the hotel and we will stay overnight at Marpha.

 Day 06: Drive to Tatopani  (1100m) 4 hour

We drive to Tatopani from Marpha. It is 1100m above from the sea level. There are bigger villages in this area where we can observe the everyday lives of the local people and upon reaching Tatopani, we relax and have a bath in the hot spring. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the many beautiful villages, landscapes and we will walk on the way of the lush forest of Rhododendron, pine, and oak. We will have our lunch on the way and have some rest then after we will start our trekking towards Tatopani. After reach Tatopani we will explore all around the Tatopani and we will spend one night in Tatopani.      

Day 07: Trek to Back to Ghorepani (2850m.) 7/8 hrs

After leaving Tatopani we slowly start our trip to Ghorepani which is 7 hours from Tatopani. It is 2800m above from the sea level. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the beautiful Gurung village, Landscapes, monasteries and get the chance to see the wonderful views of the mountain. We will have our Lunch on the way and take some rest then after we will move towards Ghorepani. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron, pine, and oak. It takes 5-6 hours to reach Ghorepani where we stay overnight. 

Day 08: Early morning Poon hill and back to Tadapani (2650m) 6 hrs

Poon hill is the most popular trekking destination in the Annapurna region. In the early morning, we climb to Poon Hill to see the awesome views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, and others. The panoramic views of the sunrise over the Himalayas will take your breath away. After taking in the views of this panoramic scenery we return back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we head east and climb a nearby ridge to descend through rhododendron forests, pass by spectacular waterfalls and reach Tadapani to spend the night.

Day 09: Trek to Ghandruk (1950m) 3 hour

We have a short pleasant, largely downhill walk through forest and farmland with occasional views of the mountains to Ghandruk: a densely settled, clean and modern Gurung village. After leaving Tatopani we slowly start our trip to Ghorepani which is 7 hours from Tatopani. It is 2800m above from the sea level. During the time of trekking, we will pass through the beautiful Gurung village, Landscapes, monasteries and get the chance to see the wonderful views of the mountain. We will have our Lunch on the way and take some rest then after we will move towards Ghandrunk. We will pass through the Lush forest of Rhododendron, pine, and oak. It takes 4 hours to reach Ghndrunk where we stay overnight. 

Day 10: Trek to Nayapul and Drive back to Pokhara. 5 hrs

After breakfast, we trek to Nayapul via Birethantitaking about 4-5 hours. We then drive to Pokhara by private car or van after reach in Pokhara city we will go to explore all around the Pokhara city which is also known as the city of the lake and we will stay one night in Pokhara.

Day 11: Pokhara to Kathmandu 

In the morning time around the 7:00 am we will drive towards Kathmandu valley. We get chance to see the wonderful scenery of Nepal. After reach in Kathmandu valley, First of all, we will check out our hotel first then after we will explore all around the Thamel Bazaar and have a farewell dinner. And return back to the hotel and spend one night in this village.

Day 12: Final Departure

We will drop you at the International Airport with our vehicle for your departure and we will see you off.
