Trekking Route: Clockwise vs Anticlockwise

When trekking the Everest 3 Pass Trek, trekkers have the option to choose between clockwise or anticlockwise routes. In the clockwise direction, starting from Lukla and heading towards Gokyo, offers a gradual ascent to higher altitudes, allowing better acclimatization and a more gradual increase in elevation. The anticlockwise route, starting from Namche to Dingboche route making Kong Ma La Pass is far better than the Thame route. There are two acclimatization days before attempting to cross the mountain pass in this section. Therefore, this blogger highly recommends the anticlockwise route as the best.

Kong Ma La Pass

The Kong Ma La Pass is one of the most challenging parts of the Everest 3 Pass Trek, standing at an altitude of 5,535 meters. This pass offers an adventurous and rugged trail, requiring trekkers to navigate narrow, rocky paths, often covered in snow. It connects the Lobuche with the Chhukung Dingboche region, offering panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu. While technically less difficult than the Cho La Pass, the Kong Ma La is still a demanding high-altitude climb, with unpredictable weather conditions and steep ascents that can make it a daunting challenge for trekkers.

Trek to Everest Base Camp

The trek involves a steady ascent to allow proper acclimatization, ensuring trekkers can adjust to the high altitudes. At Base Camp, trekkers get to stand at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain, a thrilling accomplishment that rewards their physical endurance with spectacular views and a sense of achievement. It is best for the acclimatization also while crossing the high – altitude passes on the Everest 3 Pass Trek.

Chola Pass to Gokyo Lake via Ngozumpa Glacier

The Gokyo Lakes, set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks, are a highlight of the trek, with the first lake appearing at 4,700 meters and the highest lake at 5,000 meters.
