Inside the Langtang National Park, the trail traverses through several mystical places even if the trail is comparatively shorter than other major trekking courses of Nepal. So, today we are writing this blog to find out the actual Langtang Valley Trek Distance.
The main purpose of writing this blog is to provide an idea to our valued travelers about the distance covered in each day of the trek. This blog can be immensely helpful for trekkers to plan for the trek. Similarly, the information of kilometers that you need to walk can provide you idea to build up the physical fitness requirements. Moreover, the knowledge of kilometers between two camps also helps trekkers to pace the trek.
The road distance between Kathmandu and Syabrubeshi is 122 kilometers to 126 kilometers. You can either take the route of the Galchhi route or the Tokha – Chhahare route. There is no airport in the trail head of the Langtang Valley Trek in Nepal. Therefore, the only way to reach the trail head is by road transportation. You can either use the local transportation or private jeep to reach Syabrubeshi from Kathmandu. The cost of the local bus is about NRs. 1500 to NRs. 2000. However, the cost of the private jeep starts from 150 $ to 180 $. A jeep can accommodate about 5 to 6 trekkers and two crew members. The road is the Pasang Lhamu Highway that passes through places like Trishuli and Dhunche.
The trek distance between Syabrubeshi and Lama Hotel is about 11.8 kilometers. The trail is full of gentle Nepalese flat trail and steep uphill. The first section of the trek is between Syabrubeshi and Dovan. For about half an hour or 45 minutes, trekkers have to walk on the road along the banks of river. The trail from Dovan to Lama Hotel is uphill through places like Bamboo and Landslide Area. The trek distance is about 11.8 kilometers but the steep uphill climb means that it takes about 6 to 7 hours to reach Lama Hotel from Syabrubeshi. Please note that this day of the Langtang Valley Trek is the first day of the trekking. Therefore, you may complete the 11.8 kilometer distance comparatively faster due to first day enthusiasm of trek.
The total trekking distance between Lama Hotel and Langtang Village is about 14.8 kilometers. The first phase of this trekking section is up to the village of Ghoda Tabela via Riverside area. The trail traverses through green lush forests and enter the grassy meadows area of the Ghoda Tabela Village. The section between Lama Hotel and Ghoda Tabela is an ideal section to observe various vegetation and wildlife. If you take a look at the hill sides near the Ghoda Tabela, then you can spot Himalayan goat, Himalayan Monal, migratory birds, musk deer, etc. Similarly, lucky ones can spot the endangered species of Red Panda.
Ghoda Tabela to Langtang Village is gradual ascent without steep uphill trail sections like from Lama Hotel to Godha Tabela. Therefore, it is easy for trekkers to walk through the section. The village of Langtang has changed since 2015. It has extended up to the fields below the Mundu Village. The remains of the old village washed by the Langtang Lirung Avalanche can be seen in the distant. If you take a detour of the place, then the trek distance can increase about 1 to 2 kilometers. The distance depends upon the kind of activities that you do upon reaching the village.
The shortest trek distance in the Langtang Valley Trek distance is between Langtang Village and Kyanjin Gompa via Mundu Village. It is about 6 to 7 kilometers long depending upon the location of your tea house and exploration inside the Mundu Village. Please note that the Mundu Village is also densely populated and in course of the trek trekkers explore the village as well which increase the trek distance. It takes about 3 hours to reach Kyanjin from Langtang Village. The most interesting part of this day’s trek is spending time at the rock café near Kyanjin. The café is run by a woman who survived the 2015 earthquake and avalanche with the help of the same rock has so many stories which can be fascinating to trekkers.
The hike to the top of the Kyanjin Ri takes about 3 to 4 hours in total. The trek distance is about 4.6 to 5 kilometers to reach 4700 m tall summit of the Kyanjin Ri. The sight of the river valleys, lakes, mountains, and Kyanjin Gompa looks spectacular from the top especially the view of Langtang Lirung. Relish this short hiking activity of about 5 kilometers (roundtrip) from Kyanjin Gompa.
The longest day of the trek is when you do the Tserko Ri Day hike from Kyanjin Gompa. The total trek distance between Kyanjin Gompa and Tserko Ri is still unclear. Some say the distance is about 13 to 15 kilometers. Interestingly, some say that the round trip is about 18 kilometers. Just know that the average trek distance on this day that a trekker covers is between 15 to 18 kilometers.
90.2 to 95 kilometers are the actual Langtang Valley Trek Distance. If you add the road distance between Syabrubeshi and Kathmandu, then the total distance that you cover during the Langtang Valley Trek in Nepal is about 334 kilometers to 340 kilometers.
