Manaslu Circuit Trek from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong

Manaslu Circuit Trek from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong
13/Sep/2026

Trekkers from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong often arrive in Nepal already familiar with Everest Base Camp or Annapurna. The Manaslu Circuit Trek from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong offers something different.

It circles the eighth highest mountain on earth through valleys that still feel remote. Fewer crowds and deeper cultural contact are the reward. Because Kathmandu sits within direct flying distance of all three countries, planning is also simpler than it looks on paper!

Why Manaslu Appeals to Trekkers From These Countries?

The Nubri and Tsum valleys carry strong Tibetan Buddhist heritage. Mani walls, prayer flags and monasteries line the trail almost from the start.

Many travelers from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong already grew up around Buddhist or Taoist temple culture. As a result, the rhythm of these villages feels familiar rather than foreign.

Manaslu also stays quieter than Everest or Annapurna. This suits travelers who prefer a slower, more personal pace on the trail, without giving up mountain scale or cultural depth.

Visas and Flights For Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong Trekkers

Each place connects to Kathmandu without a long detour. This shortens total travel time considerably compared with many other departure points in Asia.

From Singapore

Singapore Airlines flies nonstop between Singapore and Kathmandu. Flight time runs close to 5 hours.

Singaporean passport holders receive a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. The fee is USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, or USD 125 for 90 days, paid in cash.

A full Manaslu itinerary often runs close to two weeks. Because of this, most travelers choose the 30-day option rather than cutting it close.

From Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur has direct flights to Kathmandu on Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, Himalaya Airlines and Nepal Airlines. Seat availability rarely becomes a problem with four carriers on the route!

Malaysian citizens also receive a visa on arrival, at the same USD 30, USD 50 or USD 125 tiers. Bring a passport valid for at least six months. One passport photo helps too, since printed photos are not always available at the counter.

From Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific and Nepal Airlines both fly nonstop from Hong Kong to Kathmandu. Hong Kong SAR passport holders do need a visa, unlike most nationalities on this list.

However, it is issued free of charge on arrival, which is a genuine advantage. Travelers should still budget normal processing time at immigration, since the queue does not move any faster.

Permits Required for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu sits inside a restricted trekking area near the Tibetan border. As a result, it requires more paperwork than Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Base Camp.

Trekkers need four permits. These are the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), since the trail exits through Dharapani into Annapurna territory, and a local Chhumnubri municipality fee also applies on top of these three!

The RAP costs roughly USD 100 to 150 for the first week during peak season, from September to November. Rates drop outside that window. MCAP and ACAP each cost around NPR 3,000. The municipality fee adds NPR 1,000 more!

In March 2026, Nepal’s Department of Immigration removed the old rule that forced solo trekkers to apply alongside a second foreigner. This makes independent planning far easier for travelers arriving without a group already formed.

We at Everest Trekking Routes handle the RAP, MCAP and ACAP paperwork directly for every client. Every itinerary also includes a licensed guide, who supports navigation, permit checks at Jagat, and pacing through the restricted section of the trail.

The Manaslu Route: From Soti Khola to Larkya La

Most itineraries begin with a drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola or Soti Khola. The trail then follows the Budhi Gandaki river through a steep gorge.

It continues toward Lho, Samagaon and Samdo, three villages known for visible Buddhist heritage. Samagaon is where most groups take an acclimatization day. Many pair this rest day with a side walk toward Manaslu’s own base camp.

From there, the route climbs to Larkya La (Larke Pass) at 5,106 meters. This pass is usually crossed early in the morning, before wind picks up later in the day.

The trail then descends to Bhimthang and continues to Dharapani. There, it briefly joins the Annapurna Circuit before the drive back to Kathmandu. A complete itinerary, including buffer days in the capital, typically runs 13 to 17 days!

Best Season, Weather and Altitude

Autumn, from September to November, gives the clearest mountain views. Lodge demand and permit fees both rise during this window, so book early.

Spring, from March to May, brings rhododendron blooms at lower elevations and slightly quieter trails.

Winter (December through February) often closes Larkya La entirely, so most agencies avoid scheduling departures then. None of the three home countries has terrain that prepares travelers for a 5,106 meter pass!

Singapore and Hong Kong sit near sea level. Even Malaysia’s highest peak, Mount Kinabalu, tops out under 4,100 meters. Because of this gap, proper acclimatization days matter more than general fitness levels back home.

What the Trek Costs and What to Pack?

Beyond the permit fees listed above, a fully organized trip covers guide and porter wages, teahouse accommodation, trail meals, and ground transportation from Kathmandu. Costs shift with group size and season.

Our team at Everest Trekking Routes builds a quote around your actual dates, rather than quoting a flat number that ignores your itinerary and travel window.

Remember to pack layered clothing for temperature swings between the lower gorge and the high pass. A four season sleeping bag also makes a real difference above Samdo.

Moreover, carry enough Nepali rupees in cash too, since ATMs disappear once you climb past the lower villages!

Planning Your Trip With Everest Trekking Routes

Our team at Everest Trekking Routes processes the RAP, MCAP and ACAP paperwork for every trekker, regardless of departure city. We also build acclimatization days into each itinerary before the Larkya La crossing, so the pass day never feels rushed.

If you are planning this Manaslu trek against a specific return flight from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong, reach out. We will plan the full schedule around your actual travel dates and group size!
