Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit get most of the attention, but both routes usually need 12 to 16 days once you include Kathmandu and travel buffers.

Langtang Valley wraps up in 5 to 11 days, and the trailhead is only 6 to 7 hours from Kathmandu by road. For someone flying in from Taipei on limited leave, that difference decides whether the trip is realistic at all!

The trail itself also rewards people who already hike seriously back home. You walk through Tamang villages, dense forest, and glacial moraine before reaching Kyanjin Ri, and the highest point of the standard route sits around 4,984 meters.

That is roughly the elevation gap between Taipei and the summit of Yushan repeated nearly twice over, so previous high-altitude hiking experience genuinely helps.

Do Taiwanese Citizens Need a Visa for Nepal?

Yes, and the process is usually simple.

Nepal issues visas on arrival to most nationalities, and Taiwanese passport holders are typically included. You will need one passport photo, US dollars in cash, and proof of where you are staying on your first night in Kathmandu.

Card payment is sometimes available at the counter, but cash keeps things moving faster during peak trekking season.

How to Get to the Langtang Trailhead From Taiwan?

There is no direct flight between Taipei and Kathmandu. Expect one connection through Bangkok, Hong Kong, or Kuala Lumpur, with total travel time landing somewhere between 15 and 22 hours depending on your layover.

Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, and China Airlines codeshare routes are common choices for this leg.

Once you land in Kathmandu, the trek itself starts with a 6 to 7 hour drive or local bus ride to Syabrubesi. Most trekkers spend one night in Kathmandu first to recover from the flight and sort out permits before heading out early the next morning.

A Note on the Recent Flood and Current Trail Conditions

Rasuwa, the district Langtang trekkers pass through on the way to Syabrubesi, was hit by a serious flash flood on August 26, 2026.

Nepal’s Army and Police have been running recovery and search operations since, and road and communication conditions in parts of the district are still settling.

Nepal’s tourism sector has recovered from major disruptions before, including the 2015 earthquake in this same region. Historically, trekking routes reopen as crews repair the infrastructure.

Permits and Costs You Should Budget For

Every foreign trekker needs two documents for Langtang Valley: a Langtang National Park entry permit and a TIMS card (which is actually optional).

The park permit runs around NPR 3,000 plus 13 percent VAT, and your guide or trekking company (like Everest Trekking Routes ourselves) can usually arrange this in Dhunche (the same day of the trek), so you do not need to chase paperwork on your own.

Beyond permits, budget for teahouse accommodation, meals, a guide, and porter if you want one.

Prices climb the higher you go, since everything is carried on someone’s back, so a plate of dal bhat that costs little in Kathmandu costs several times more near Kyanjin Gompa.

Best Time to Go, and How It Lines Up With Taiwan’s Calendar

October and November give you the clearest mountain views and stable weather, which also happens to overlap with a manageable stretch for most Taiwan work calendars outside of Lunar New Year.

March through May works too, with rhododendron blooms adding color to the lower forest sections.

Avoid the July and August window if you can. That period lines up with Taiwan’s summer holiday season, but it is also peak monsoon in Nepal, which means muddy trails, limited mountain visibility, and a higher chance of flight delays into Kathmandu.

What the Trail Actually Feels Like Day to Day?

Early days move through forest and river valley, with the trail gaining elevation gradually enough that most reasonably fit hikers adjust without major issues.

Langtang Village itself sits within an area that was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake, and walking through it today means walking through a community that rebuilt itself largely through tourism income.

Higher up, Kyanjin Gompa serves as your base for exploring Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri, both of which offer close-up views of Langtang Lirung without requiring technical climbing skill.

Altitude sickness is the real risk here, not technical difficulty, so build in acclimatization time rather than rushing the itinerary to save a day.
