Langtang Valley Trek Nepal Guide for Asian Travelers

Langtang Valley Trek Nepal Guide for Asian Travelers
24/Sep/2026

The Langtang Valley Trek is still worth doing after the August 2026 flood. The trail above Syabrubesi was not in the flood’s path.

Travelers from India, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Korea keep asking us the same question about it.

Worry no more! This guide covers the cost, the day-by-day plan, and the practical details you need before booking!

Langtang Valley Trek Cost: What Our USD 550 Package Covers!

Our 10-day package costs USD 550 per person. It includes:

  • Airport pickup and drop-off in Kathmandu
  • Transport from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and back
  • Teahouse rooms and meals during the trek
  • The Langtang National Park permit
  • An experienced English-speaking guide, with 1 porter for every 2 trekkers (solo trekkers do not get a porter)
  • A sleeping bag, a duffle bag, and all government taxes

Some costs stay outside the price. You pay for your Kathmandu meals, tips (about 10% of the trip cost is typical), hot showers at NPR 300 to 500, phone charging at NPR 200 to 300, and drinks.

Moreover, a private jeep costs USD 150 each way. Helicopter rescue is separate, so your insurance should cover it!

Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary: 10 Days From Kathmandu

  • Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel
  • Day 2: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,550 m), 7 to 8 hours
  • Day 3: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,380 m), 6 hours
  • Day 4: Trek to Mundu (3,543 m), 6 to 7 hours
  • Day 5: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), 4 to 5 hours
  • Day 6: Rest day at Kyanjin, or hike Tserko Ri (4,984 m), 7 to 8 hours
  • Day 7: Trek back to Lama Hotel, 6 to 7 hours
  • Day 8: Trek to Syabrubesi, 4 to 5 hours
  • Day 9: Drive to Kathmandu
  • Day 10: Final international departure.

Day 4 is the toughest. The trail climbs steeply through forest to Ghoda Tabela, then flattens out toward Mundu.

Day 6 gives your body time to adjust. Tserko Ri is optional, and Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) makes a shorter alternative.

Is the Langtang Valley Trek Safe After the 2026 Flood?

On 26 August 2026, a flash flood came down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers in Rasuwa. It damaged roads and bridges between Betrawati and Timure, and it hit Syabrubesi hard.

However, the trek follows the Langtang Khola, a separate river that did not flood. Langtang village, Lama Hotel, and Kyanjin Gompa sit outside the damage reports.

The real change is the road, not the trail! We at Everest Trekking Routes check access before every departure.

If the Syabrubesi road is not usable, you have two options:

  1. You can walk in from Sundarijal through Gosaikunda and Thulo Syabru, then join the standard trail at Lama Hotel.
  2. Alternatively, we start from Dhunche once vehicles get through. Either change alters the schedule, so we confirm the new plan and price before you pay.

Your visit also matters locally, because guides, lodge owners, and porters in Rasuwa depend on trekkers!

Why the Valley Still Deserves a Place on Your List?

Langtang sits close to Kathmandu, so you fit it into 10 days without a mountain flight.

Kyanjin Gompa faces Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), and the village has a monastery and a local yak cheese factory.

Tamang families run most lodges along the way. In Langtang, a village rebuilt by survivors of the 2015 avalanche disaster (during the Gorkha Earthquake), locals will share their stories if you ask.

Best Time for the Langtang Valley Trek

Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) give the clearest views. So, they are often labelled the best. The prime months are October and November.

On the other hand, monsoon brings slippery trails and landslides, especially on the climb to Ghoda Tabela.

Moreover, winter snow can close Tserko Ri and Kyanjin Ri. If you plan around Golden Week or Diwali, book early, since autumn is our busiest season!

Flights and Visas for Asian Travelers

Nonstop flights reach Kathmandu from Delhi, Mumbai, Dhaka, Colombo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Kunming, and Seoul.

Travelers from Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia usually connect through one of those hubs.

Indian citizens need no visa, but they should carry a passport or voter ID card.

Most other Asian nationalities get a visa on arrival for USD 30 (15 days), USD 50 (30 days), or USD 125 (90 days), paid in cash.

The 15-day visa covers our 10-day plan for Langtang Valley Trek. Other SAARC nationals can get a free 30-day visa once a year. However, you need to confirm your nationality on the Department of Immigration website before you fly!

Permits and Guide for Langtang Valley Trek

You need the Langtang National Park entry permit. It costs NPR 3,000, or NPR 1,500 for SAARC nationals.

Don’t worry! If you book any of our Langtang trekking packages at Everest Trekking Routes, we arrange it for you, so you skip the queues in Kathmandu. This trek needs no restricted area permit!

Since we always recommend trekking with a guide, every one of our packages includes one. Our guides know current road and trail conditions. They also check your oxygen level every evening with a pulse oximeter!

Difficulty and Altitude of Langtang Valley Trek

We rate the Langtang Valley Trek as “moderate”.

That’s because you walk 4 to 7 hours a day on forest trails, rocky sections, and steady climbs. Your highest night is at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m).

Headache, nausea, and dizziness are early signs of altitude sickness, so tell your guide right away!

We slow down or descend if symptoms do not ease. Here’s a tip for you: a few weeks of hill walking or stair climbing before you arrive makes a real difference.

Teahouses, Food, Internet, and Cash

Teahouse rooms are basic and unheated, while the dining room stays warm. Some lodges now even offer attached bathrooms!

Menus stay mostly vegetarian at altitude, with dal bhat, noodles, and fresh yak cheese at Kyanjin.

Wi-Fi works at Kyanjin but runs slowly. ATMs disappear after the lower villages, so carry enough Nepali rupees.

Packing and Insurance Tips

Pack layers, broken-in boots, sun protection, and water purification tablets.

We at Everest Trekking Routes provide a sleeping bag rated to -10°C or -20°C and a duffle bag.

Very important: buy travel insurance before you fly! It should cover trekking up to 5,000 m and helicopter evacuation. Send us a copy, so we can coordinate a rescue if needed.
